Hello friends! Today the Quilted Home Quilt Pattern is available. This quilt pattern got its namesake from my newest fabric collection from Moda - The Quilted Home Fabric collection. These are MADE for each other! Let's jump in!

I honed a new skill with this quilt pattern - strip piecing! The Mudroom Quilt Pattern and the Living Room Quilt Pattern utilize this skill, but in a much different way. The Quilted Home Pattern uses strip piecing to create the visual effect of a plaid within the quilt pattern. If you use two fabrics in the same color family, one slightly darker then the other, they will come together to create a beautiful overlap at the corners. The strip piecing makes assembly a little easier when you sew the long strips together and then cut out the small sections needed to create this effect.

Now, strip piecing is fun but with this particular pattern works best if you also use a scant ¼" seam. Have you tried this? With the few samples I whipped up I found that the seams matched up much better in the end if I used a scant ¼" seam allowance. This means I kept the edge of my fabric just inside my quilters foot on my machine so that the seam allowance was just slightly less than ¼". The theory is that this allows for that little extra bit of space when you press the fabric back to open it.
This pattern started as a wall hanging idea way back in 2018 when I was pitching an interior designer on hanging this in one of their rental houses. When you step back and look at the pattern overall it remind me of a neighborhood with picket fences in between. The baby size of the quilt makes the most beautiful wall hanging size as well!
I had the draft saved and ready for the day it became real. Then when I went to design a quilt pattern for the Quilted Home Fabric Collection - it was time! I made a few adjustments and created this pattern to be Fat Quarter Friendly so that it's one less decision to make! One quilt pattern - one fabric collection. Easy!
I used some soft solids from my stash for this one, but then decided it needed a little something extra. So, naturally I added some block printing and I'm in love with it. You can read more about block printing and how to add it to your quilts in this blog post. I love the texture and imperfect detail it adds to such a precise pattern.
