Hello! Mother's Day and Teacher Appreciation Week are coming up soon. I've got a quick DIY tutorial for you all today along with a simple gift idea to bring it all together. Are you ready? Let's jump in.
DIY Scrunchies - Two Sizes!
Supplies:
Fabric: 3 ½" x 22" (for the large size) and 2 ½" x 19" (for the small)
⅛" elastic (or larger if you prefer!) 20" for the large, 19" for the small
Safety pin (or two!)
Quilting Clip
Steps:
Follow the same steps for either size of scrunchie!
Start by folding the fabric strip with right sides together. Sew along the raw edge with a ¼" seam allowance. I used a zig zag stitch for more stability.
Next, fasten the safety pin on one end of the fabric tube. Thread it through in order to turn the tube right side out. You can push the pin through and gently work it through.
Similar to the last step - use the safety pin to thread the elastic through the fabric tube. I found it helpful to use a clip on one end to hold one end of the elastic where I could reach it and the push the safety pin through.
Next, tie the elastic. You can sew it together but that was pretty difficult with this smaller size elastic I used. If you are using ¼" you could sew and trim the ends!
Once you have the knot tied tight you can fold the two raw edges under (inside the tube) to create a finished edge. Then tuck one inside the other.
I experimented with the next step. You can use an invisible whip stitch to close the ends together OR you can just use your machine to sew across the edge. Once the scrunchie is all scrunched I didn't think the sewn edge was noticeable, but you might want it hidden if it bothers you. Make sure the edges aren't twisted before you choose either option!
Then you're done! I really love the small size and might actually make a few more for myself! Next, let's turn these into a little gift bundle for whoever you need a little something special for!
DIY Gift Bundle Idea:
This can be a treat for anyone you know, but with Mother's Day and Teacher Appreciation coming up that's what I'm working on. I would love this as a birthday present or just a gift to cheer someone up!
Here's how I wrapped mine up! I tucked it all in with some white shredded grass in the cup! You can find a selection of mugs here in my shop.
